Assessment and Evaluation

What They Mean

Assessment is the process of collecting information about student learning. Evaluation is making a judgement about that learning.

Types of Assessment

  • Formative: during teaching, to guide learning, for example quizzes and class questions.
  • Summative: at the end, to measure achievement, for example final exams.
  • Diagnostic: before teaching, to find student needs.

Key Points

Good assessment is fair, clear and helps both the teacher and the student improve. This topic is common in teaching tests.
